For those of you who loved the original story, you may want to keep your expectations down. The film struggles when the focus shifts to the new couple. And the show’s central antagonist — Emperor Belos — is intent on wiping out wild magic in order to oppose rigid structures on the world, in a resonant allegory for the reactionary persecution that can drive queer oppression.

This film continues the volatile love story between two famous actors. You’ll find it on all the recommendation lists of the best BL anime. It reminds me of a cozy YA novel, capturing the giddy feelings of falling in love for the first time. Nonetheless, this campy anime is a titillating guilty pleasure with provocative visuals, skimpy outfits, and lots of flamboyant flair.
It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but the anime is more enjoyable than I expected.

Adapted from a Korean novel, Semantic Error is a slice-of-life BL anime series with four short episodes.
The rough-looking visuals add to the awkwardness, while the gay content is more of a comedic gag than anything meaningful.

Tadaima, Okaeri is a Japanese BL omegaverse anime series about a family raising a child in a suburban neighbourhood.
From my memory, it always felt like BL anime existed as a genre for as long as I can remember. Let's just say that people with good taste usually watch BL animes!
Despite its long history, there is surprisingly not a lot of anime to watch in this genre. This sweet, gentle anime will appeal to many fans of the BL genre.

Dakaichi: Spain Arc (2021)
Dakaichi: Spain Arc is the movie sequel of the Japanese BL anime series, Dakaichi.
The anime adaptation of Naoko Takeuchi’s magical girl manga featured a large amount of queer characters, but the English dub from Dic Entertainment infamously erased them all. And beyond the central pair, the show works incredibly well as the gay sports drama of your dreams, with a banger opening and incredibly animated and choreographed skating sequences that’ll have even the most figure skating ignorant cheering for Yuri to get the gold.
Attending Ohtori Academy boarding school, she enters into the underground Rose Crest Duels, a sword-fighting tournament for the hand in marriage of the demure Anthy. The main character is a divorced dad busy with a full-time job and raising his young son. What should have been a lighthearted romantic comedy is marred by the uncomfortable main romance.

“The Legend of Korra” (2012-2014)
“The Legend of Korra” is the show that really kickstarted modern queer storytelling in animation, and the fact that it’s one of the first hampers it in obvious ways. The first episode is a quick prologue that describes a critical moment in a gay couple's relationship.
They accept the responsibility of becoming her caregiver. Strange World changes this trend by having one of its primary protagonists be LGBTQ+, with the youngest Clade family member Ethan fostering a crush on his friend Diazo. This anime deals with the theme of duality, exploring the discrepancies between perception and behaviour.

Given is a Japanese BL anime series about a band and their mysterious new vocalist.
Despite their drastically different personalities, the attraction between them is palpable.
I liked what I saw in the Semantic Error anime, which showed tons of promise with an engaging romance.
