After his dad's death, however, Daniels' life didn't get much easier.
Simply for being gay.
Daniels even made his career bend to his will solely for love. The Precious director told the magazine his father, William, dumped him into a trash can after he caught him wearing his mother's red high heels.
"For me it really created a world where I understood Precious, where you learn the power of the imagination," he said of his relationship with his father, who died while on duty as a police officer when he was 15.
But, even though his dad did not understand him being gay, the director understood his father's rationale in hindsight. "When I came out it was because I loathed my dad so much," Daniels revealed during his sit-down with Out in November 2013.
